About Wango
Built By Wango is for people who still get excited by old cars, motorbikes, garages, road trips, fixing things and the occasional pint at the end of it all.
It's a mix of petrolhead stories, Gen X nostalgia, practical know-how, questionable purchases, things we probably shouldn't have sold, the dumb sh!t we've done over the years and the general belief that if something's broken, it's worth having a look before chucking it away.
Wango is the character at the heart of it all.
He's an illustrated character inspired by a real Gen X mechanic, biker, lifelong petrolhead and unashamed Ford fan, and we use AI as one of the tools to bring him and his world to life.
But the life behind Wango is very real.
The motorbikes are real. The cars are real. The places, trips, bike meets, mechanical experience, pub stops, mishaps and stories are real too. That's why you'll see a mixture of Wango illustrations, designed graphics and genuine photographs from the things we're talking about.
We're not interested in pretending an AI-generated picture is a photograph or inventing a life for Wango that never happened. The character gives Built By Wango its personality. The real experiences behind him give us the stories.
There'll be plenty of cars and bikes, but you don't need to know your torque settings or own half of Halfords to be welcome here. If you grew up making mixtapes, remember when cars had personality, prefer fixing something to replacing it or simply enjoy a good story and a bit of nostalgia, you'll probably fit in.
Built By Wango is still growing. There are blogs to read, products on the way and plenty more ideas being knocked about in the garage.
Most of all, we want it to become a place where people share their own cars, bikes, memories, knowledge and stories too.
